The main results

There are more than 100 caves known in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. For 80 of them surveying and brief descriptions are made. Most of these caves are located between the Dniester and Prut Rivers (Pokuttya) (Tismenetskyi, Tlumachskyi, and Gorodenkivskyi administrative districts). Series of caves are known in the sandstone formations of the Carpathians (Kosivskyi and Verkhovynskyi districts).

The Pokutyanka Cave (Nezhdanna) is longest in the area (935 m). The Longest cave in the sandstone is Tectonic (Dovbush) Cave - 417 m (Yaremche).

The Stalactite Cave is most beautiful. In the past, it included unusually rich calcite decoration. A unique for the region stalagmite with height of 1.5 meters has been preserved inside. There are attractive vertical corrosion-gravity caves up to 40 m of depth, near Odaev Village. The Inventory Commission of UkrSA is going to publish the Inventory of caves of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The publication is constantly delayed, since after each next field trip new objects appear, in need of further exploration and topographical survey. At present, about ten objects require additional survey. We invite all cavers wishing to contribute their possible assistance in the study of this beautiful and fascinating cave area. Our joint effort will result in the most complete inventory of caves in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
